Gumball Necklaces

About a year and a half ago my sister in law and I decided to make bubblegum necklaces for our girls for Valentine's Day. Well, being the supermom that she is- she made necklaces, and I let my bubblegum sit in a bag on the counter until it got old and stale. (Please tell me I'm not the only one who does stuff like that.) Since then these tasty necklaces have been on my "I really should do that someday" list, but somehow always get overlooked.

, about a week ago we decided to throw a little tea party for the grandchildren and these necklaces were one of the activities the kids helped us do. Turns out they are SO easy to make, and they were a huge hit with our little princesses.

Pick out your bubblegum. These beautiful pearly ones were found at a local candy store. You'll need between 6-10 pieces per necklace.

Gather some ribbon. You'll need about two yards of ribbon to allow for tying knots and a big beautiful bow at the end. We used a thinner ribbon for these necklaces, but I think a thicker ribbon would be adorable.

Carefully poke a hole in each end of the bubblegum. You can use a metal skewer or a clean nail to do this. Don't just poke the skewer all the way through the gumball, it will crack. You'll want to do each side individually.

Tie a double knot where you want your first gumball to go.

Now for the part the kids can help with! Thread the end of the ribbon through a blunt plastic needle. Then show your little helpers how to carefully guide the needle through the bubblegum. You will need to tie double knots in between each piece of gum. You'll notice our knots are not perfectly spaced here... we had help. :)

Once you've threaded on all of your bubblegum tie a knot to keep your last piece in place.

Tie a big bow in the back and let your little bubblegum princess show off her new bling!

We had so much fun making these! They would be a great (and inexpensive!) gift for your little girl to make to give to her friends for their birthdays. They'd also be great party favors, valentine's, christmas gifts (Think green and red bubblegum with cute Christmas ribbon!) or one of those fun things you can do with your daughter... just because she's yours.
